The Last of Us (16)
If Conor was scared outside the arena, he was bloody-well terrified inside.
The Wrestle Plex backstage had gone through absolute hell. There were chairs scattered everywhere. Broken table parts all over. A DEFIANCE banner lay ripped to pieces across the entire hallway. Conor looked at Tyler as if to say “I told you so” but Tyler held a stoic face.
“Keep going.” He said and led the walk down the hallway.
Crunch, crunch, crunch. Over the broken pieces that lay beneath their feet. A slight step-around some glass. Whoever knew what happened here, definitely had a story to tell.
The Wrestle Plex hallway wasn’t too complicated. There was a big backstage atrium at the beginning and a few narrow hallways, one which clearly lead to the UTA side and the other DEFIANCE. Both were a mess, however. The DEFIANCE side had the aforementioned broken tables, glass and dented chairs… and the UTA side displayed smashed bottles of alcohol and wine. Probably from celebrating too much after beating up DEFIANCE characters.
Tyler kept his head level and focused while Conor took in the surroundings. They were walking down the DEFIANCE hallway now and were about to turn a corner.
That’s when Conor saw it.
He froze dead in his tracks.
Tyler hadn’t noticed it at first. Instead, he kept walking until he didn’t hear his brother behind him anymore. He turned around.
“What?” Tyler was not pleased, but Conor didn’t say a word. He was still frozen. Tyler huffed and turned to see what Conor was looking at.
#FUCKDEFIANCE, spray-painted on the wall.
“I- I-” Conor tried to speak.
“These are not welcoming players.” Tyler asserted. “You know that, I know that. This does not surprise me.”
“But the language.” Conor’s eyes continued to pop out of his head. He now looked over to his brother for disapproval.
“Yes, I’m aware. Any player that needs to use foul language is probably not a very good player.” Tyler took a deep breath and walked over to Conor. “How many players say those kind of words these days? Plenty of them. It’s because they can’t really play the system. It’s so easy to swear and try to make this connection to show how tough you are, but the real players don’t need to do it.”
Tyler dug one hand into his backpack.
“Besides, like I said, we already know the UTA is full of extremely poor characters. Their system was terrible so they needed to infect this one. That’s how it all started.”
Conor still seemed rattled.
