Title: Tower of Babel
Featuring: Diego de Leon
Date: 11/11/2013
Location: DEFIANCE promo booth.
[It had been a crazy two months since Diego had been active in DEFIANCE. The moment he signed he knew it had everything he wanted, and none of the things he disliked. He wanted the challenges, the chances to face off against guys like Dan Ryan, Cancer Jiles and even Bronson Box. He wanted to cut his teeth against the best DEFIANCE had to offer. It wasn't for personal glory and accolades.
It wasn't about titles.
It wasn't about money.
It was about facing the best in the world and perfecting his craft while trying to be honorable.
He didn't want the attention of anyone person in the back.
All he wanted was to be a hero. Just a minor hero that everyone sometimes root for.
So imagine his surprise and horror when he found himself facing off against three giant men before his debut match against Eugene Dewey. Four men whom he had never spoken a word to or seen before. All he wanted was to fight and not be bothered but these men had stood in his way and tried to force him to bow his head? They stood between him and his chance at respectability and greater challenges?
An honorable and prideful Mexican American back down from a challenge?
Fuck that, he thought.
Diego is hunched over a table, holding part of his poncho back. He has an air of concentration to him right now. His shoulders tight, arms tense, and his movements are efficient. His lion's mask only allows his mouth to be visible, and his lips are small lines of contained fury. He picks up a JENGA tile and places it on the top of the mini tower.
A bold red DEFIANCE logo is behind him.]
"Team HOSS, you built yourselves up."
[His voice is too soft and quiet to be intimidating, yet still smoldering with intensity. Diego wasn't going to win any titles for being the most intimidating member of DEFIANCE roster. He left that to men like Bronson Box or Cancer Jiles. They could talk.
As far as Diego was concerned there was two languages people spoke in the world; Talking and doing.
He subscribed to one of those languages.]
"Now it's all crashing down."
[The Jenga tower begins its descent, swaying uneasily and falling over the side of the table. The clatters of the pieces a jarring noise against the quiet. His gaze shifts from the pile to the camera directly.]
"I hope you prepared."
[A smile of barely contained anger.]
"Good luck."
