Bah gawd, is Tom Sawyer dead?
In the immediate aftermath of DefianceTV, a number of burning questions immediately arise. The first that I chose to investigate was “Is Tom Sawyer Okay?”. River Park Hospital confirmed that Tom was a patient, so I set off before the cameras stopped rolling.
In a most uncharacteristic move, the hospital was unwilling to give any information whatsoever about Tom to DEFIANCE reporters! Patient-doctor privilege aside, Tom has been extremely forthcoming about this sort of thing in the past. But today, the hospital would only say that Mr. Sawyer has instructed them to maintain absolute privacy.
After charming a nurse, I was able to confirm that Tom Sawyer is in stable condition. But he would not answer any emails, phone calls, official requests for his condition, or tweets for a solid three days! He maintained a total media blackout until he posted a Tweet saying simply “Mechanicville”! Is Tom setting his nose almost immediately back to the grindstone after the hellacious asskicking his mouth got himself into?
So this wasn't simply a pile of speculation, I contacted Lucas Harper, Tom's mentor and former Tag partner for some comments.
Q: How is Tom?
A: He's fine. Determined. Definitely someone to keep your eye on.
Q: He's had a faux-shot at the DEFIANCE Trios Tag Titles. What's next?
A: The Untouchables are gonna see Tom as a joke after that. He's intent on making them take him seriously. He's gonna take some dramatic measures now.
Q: Sounds bad for the Untouchables! Any hints as to what's gonna go down?
A: If he does what I think he intends to? War. And lots of it. They won't be laughing at Tom for long.
Q: Any chance of a Foreshadowing reunion to combat the Untouchables?
A: I wouldn't burden Tom with my presence. Once Eugene's done teaching Jeff some respect, I think they're gonna tear the tag division up. Just need a third guy. Maybe Sam, maybe Christian... Hell, maybe that Voss guy. I wouldn't put it past Tom to recruit anyone in the Good Fight.
Q: So, like, what IS the point of the name of Tom's group? Is it a movement, is it just a funny name for a stable...
A: It's an elemental force of the Universe. There is always a force of good to counter a force of Evil. Whether it is growth versus rot, order versus chaos, air versus void, or Tom Sawyer and his Maniacs against the Untouchables.
