Tom Sawyer on WARGAMES: THE EVENT BEYOND

Posted by Tom Sawyer on 2 Sep 2012

After a successful Trios tag match and a win in the record books, why is Tom not happy about how WarGames turned out? DEFIANCE Reporter Lester Gibbons with an exclusive interview with Tom on WarGames, his plans going forward and The Good Fight!

After a successful Trios tag match, Tom Sawyer should be on top of the world. He personally pinned Christopher Barton, beat the World's Longest Tag Team, got to team with “The King of the Bittermen” Jeff Andrews and “The Ripper” Jack Cassidy. He proved himself to still have it, he gave his “cause” a strong shot in the arm, and he got himself a big, fat winner's check.

So why did Tom seem so pensive and moody after WarGames? A number of interviews were turned down, until DEFIANCE dispatched former C2W interview-slave Lester Gibbons to try to speak with Tom, get his thoughts on the events.

Tom was glued to his monitor until the very end of the show, when it went off the air, and refused to say more than a monosyllabic grunt. Aside from his trip to see Christian Light, Tom sat crosslegged on the floor in front of his DEF-provided monitor, eyes wide and unblinking.

He allowed himself a single smile when Claira St. Sure made Yoshikazu YAZ tap out... But that was all.

Lester Gibbons:

"Why so serious, Tom?"

Tom Sawyer:

"Did you see it?"

LG:

"Gonna need more information. See what?"

Sawyer:

"Box and FDJ. They're getting together before I can get anyone on my side. The bad guys are teaming up to cause even greater destruction than they have been. First it was White and Jiles, getting the band back together. Now Box and FDJ. Dentari has YAZ on his side, unless this new YAZ messes things up... But that's three teams right there.”

LG:

So. What're you gonna do about it?”

Sawyer:

What I have to. I need someone to pay attention to me. Christian Light was too busy tonight, but I hope at the first Playoff show, he'll have time to listen. The Good Fight needs soldiers, and I can't do this by myself."

(Tom took a long, despondent moment to look down, resting his hands on his lap.)

Sawyer:

But... If I can't get anyone to listen, and if I can't get anyone to stand with me... By god and Rock n' Wrestling as my witness, I'll try.”

LG:

To get people on your side?”

Sawyer:

To fight The Good Fight by myself. Someone has to. We've got a bunch of good guys around here that are getting distracted with battles and ego and storylines... But nobody else who is paying attention to the overall War we're fighting. Good versus Evil, Light versus Dark, Wrestling versus Destruction.”

LG:

If you could get any people on your side, who would it be?”

Sawyer: (Without hesitation)

Christian Light, Mike Bell, John Henry, Boston Bancroft, Eric Dane and Lucas Harper.”

LG:

Well, at least two of those are a shoo-in. Light and Harper should be willing to come work with you, right?”

Sawyer:

We'll see at Playoff 1, with Christian. As for Lucas... He wants to stay retired. When I was fighting Jaymz Watkins in the WWA, Lucas took a nasty attack and had a vertebrae herniated. It's been repaired, but...”

LG:

Well, Light should see the Light and come on over to your side, Tom.”

Sawyer: (Sounding unconvinced)
“We'll see.”

Tom politely requested that Lester leave, and was soon out of the CenturyLink Center. Rumor has it that Tom sat alone at a local diner until 3 A.M., signing autographs if approached, but otherwise using an iPad and a notebook to feverishly write.

Battle plans? Possible allies? A last Will and Testament? Possible Biography?

We will keep reporting upon this as it develops.
