Stepping Up to the Challenge

Posted by Lance Warner on 12 Jun 2014

DEFIANCE is on the road toward Duluth, Georgia after an action-packed show in Atlantic City and a hot topic of conversation is the line of contenders that seem to be queuing up for a crack at Tony "Two Hands" Di Luca.

Following a shady-as-hell win at Grindhouse: Canada to capture the Southern Heritage title, Di Luca's reign has been put to the test one show into the Homecoming tour. He narrowly escaped New Jersey with the belt still in hand after another underhanded win over a game Lisa Loeh, who has shown improvement since spending a good chunk of the Canada tour in Japan. Now it looks like Di Luca may have Stockton Pyre, Frank Holiday, and Wade Elliott gunning for him.

"Correction...he will have Wade Elliott gunning for him," said Lindsay Troy, who stopped to talk outside an Atlanta-area gym. "I'll be making sure of that."

A backstage confrontation last week between the Big Damn Heroes and the Legitimate Businessmen's Club is the set-up for Troy's DEFIANCE singles debut in Georgia against "Big" Vinny Rinaldi. Per Di Luca's edict, a win for the Queen means a SoHer title shot for the Bad Dog.

"Vinny Rinaldi's not the biggest guy I've ever fought. He's not the strongest and he's not the most athletic. But he's probably the dumbest, which is too bad for him and the clowns he plods along after."

The 'Heroes have all talked a strong game and walked away with team wins since their arrival nearly three months ago, but even with their collective successes as singles competitors in other places, this task won't be easy.

"Not saying it will be, either," Troy said after I pointed this out. "But I've got a pretty good record of cutting guys down and taking the W for myself. Frank Holiday and Stockton Pyre can argue about who lands where in the SoHer landscape all they want, but after Rinaldi falls in Duluth it'll be Wade at the front of the line and Troy Matthews won't be the only Giant Killer on this roster. Get me on the record and have Stockton put that shit in his blog too, if that's still a thing he does. And if Pyre, Holiday, or Matthews have a problem with it, then I'm not hard to find."

It's said with a smirk and a wink, but putting the banter aside it'll be another wild night in DEFIANCE when we crash the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Get on that HULU PLUS jam, because you're not going to want to miss it.

TALKING DEF

"You've cheered me on, you've cried for me, you've sung along with me and you've laughed at my stupid jokes. Nobody had ANY idea who "Black Out" Pat Cassidy was when I walked into this place, and nobody thought I'd make it far enough to be up here accepting this award. In seven months time, YOU ALL have taken me from a nobody to a household name… and together, we've taken this whole scene by storm. Stick with me on this ride, my faithful drinking buddies… and just imagine where we'll be at this time next year."
