Bronson Box's European History

Posted by Lance Warner on 13 Dec 2013

The reception from the packed UK crowd for their "home town boy" Bronson Box was odd to say the least. The Original DEFIANT's history in the UK and mainland Europe before he ever signed with DEFIANCE might shine a little light on why the people were so behind Bronson even after the Wargod levied some pretty harsh remarks at his countrymen.

Bronson Box has never really allowed us behind the curtain. We know he was born in Scotland, we know he left home at a very young age and lived a life on the fringes for many years before a stint in prison put then Hollis McAllister on a path to being the first ever DEFIANCE WORLD Heavyweight champion. About a year before his release from prison (the time frame for all of this is still a mystery and Boxer isn't talking) Hollis met Spud Collins, a former wrestler turned trainer that was doing some volunteer work in the prison. Spud took Hollis under his wing and through his tutelage was born Bronson Box. He took to the mat game like a fish to water, grappling became his life.

Upon Bronson's release from prison, a years worth of training and weight training under his belt, Spud already had several tours lined up for his star pupil. Spot shows in London, tours through Germany, France and the Netherlands. Grueling treks through the Eastern Bloc countries even down into the Mediterranean in Greece, Turkey. He even worked several large shows in South Africa. He was a sponge, soaking up every morsel of experience he could.

It was during this period Bronson decided on his goal, his ultimate goal. The goal that has fueled his drive, his passion and every sick depraved thing he's done since joining DEFIANCE wrestling. To be the single greatest attraction in all of sports and entertainment.

First starting out, being a proud UK grappler taught in the old way "good guy and bad guy" meant very little to Boxer. He was a lump of clay fresh out of the kiln, a work in progress. He had his epiphany about a year out from signing with DEFIANCE so up until that time Bronson wasn't exactly reviled. He was the stalwart grappler, developing a fan base that appreciated his straightforward hard nosed British approach to the sport. Black trunks, black boots, just wrestling. The fans across Europe came to appreciate Bronson, he gave them no real reason to hate him... no real reason to love him either, but they did.

It was during that last year of indie competition after he realized his ultimate goal, his style slowly started to change. More theatrics, more hostility, more brutality. His mustache was grown out and waxed, his head sheered smooth, his ring gear changed to reflect his change in perspective... silent straightforward grappling was left behind for a more theatric approach.

He knew to reach his goal of being the greatest attraction the sport had ever seen he needed that change. He also knew there were better wrestlers out there that had been doing it decades longer than he had. So if he couldn't be wrestling's greatest pure wrestler... he'd be its greatest monster. He started competing in more brutal matches for less reputable companies. More opportunity to draw a little blood and explore the darker side of the sport. And himself.

It wasn't long after this Bronson was scooped up by Eric Dane and the Scottish Strongman eventually became the standard bearer here in DEFIANCE. So all this being said, Bronson walking back onto his home turf for the first time in years is coming face to face with a fan base that on the whole still looks at him as that stalwart grappler they watched crisscross the country so many years ago and hone his razer sharp game. A far cry from the self professed "monster" we know and loath today as the leader of The Blood Diamonds.

With how much the fans reaction in England the other night obviously bothered him one has to wonder... what will the Bombastic Brawler do to convince his adoring fans just how deplorable he really has become. If I were Eugene Dewey, Sam Turner, Dusty Griffith or even Dan Ryan I'd keep my head on a swivel for the rest of this trek down the Wargod's memory lane.

Their careers might depend on it.
