BRAZEN Presents: Road To The BRAZEN Star Cup
Posted by Lance Warner on 7 Mar 2021
Nine hundred and ninety-six fans came out to one of BRAZEN's regular venues, the Earl K. Long Gymnasium in Lafayette, Louisiana for a special One-Shot show on Saturday... however, the REAL announcement was going to kick off the show regarding a new championship to be added to the BRAZEN ranks! Click ahead for the latest results!
--BRAZEN Matchmaker Capital Punishment kicked off the show from a podium placed near the entrance setup of the gymnasium. Cappy said with the recent growth of DEFIANCE's roster and Favoured Saints pouring new funds into BRAZEN, they have announced the formation of a new title of sorts...
The BRAZEN Star Cup!
The crowd popped as the new trophy was revealed to the audience. The golden cup-like trophy will be the newest championship meant to spotlight the younger talent as well as being able to go the distance. All BRAZEN Star Cup title defenses will be contested under 15-Minute Iron Man rules to see who can go the distance. On the next Double Shot, there would be eight opening rounds, four for each of the two nights. More rules and participants to be announced. The only exclusions to those who could challenge for the BRAZEN Star Cup are former DEFIANCE talent who frequent BRAZEN or any wrestler who has previously held the BRAZEN Championship.
--The show kicked off with the always-popular BRAGG defending the BRAZEN Onslaught Title against both perennial favorite "Wingman" Titus Campbell and the former football player Finn Dunson! And this one was hard hitting from the jump! BRAGG laid into both of his opponents with chops while Dunson threw great right hands a la his uncle Paul Dunson, the former Onslaught Champion. Titus lit up both opponents with Turbulence (Airplane Spins into big slam) and almost won with the Hookup on Dunson, but BRAGG dropped a leg across his neck and then hit Dunson with They All Fall Down (Jackknife powerbomb) for the win and first successful defense of the championship! Titus wasn't pinned and wanted another shot at the title on the next Double Shot. The massive Big Bad accepted!
--A special eight-man tag was up next between those dubbed as BRAZEN New Blood who had been tearing it up against the BRAZEN Originals of Gentlemen's Agreement and Brutal Attack Force. Nathan Cross and Jack Halcyon had already been opponents as well as tag partners on a few occasions so they had a little synergy early on against Petey Garrett. Leyenda de Ocho, the video game luchador, wowed the crowds mid-match with a huge volley of dives including a suicide dive to BAF on one side, only to come back in hit GA on the other with a huge tornillo! But later on, Lord Sewell and OTM picked him off and worked the leg. A double leaping DDT by Ocho led to the massive Hawaiian Luke Ali'i taking out the competition! He LEAPFROGGED over OTM and hit him with a savate kick, then Sewell got launched into a press slam cutter. Cross tagged in as Halcyon and Ocho dove onto the BAF, leading to the Crossover (Rolling Cutter) on OTM for the win!
--Two monsters with nothing on common... well, except love of messing people up. And that's exactly what BRAZEN's veteran monster and BRAZEN's newest brute did by teaming up. Silently, they seemed to work together. FAFNIR dominated Walter Levy including an UGLY back suplex on the ring apron! David Hightower did not FAFNIR have all the fun. The German Dragon watched Hightower WRECK CAGE! A huge shoulder tackle knocked HIM OVER the ropes! The match ended with Hightower learning a new move in the form of a thrust spinebuster to win the match. After which, FAFNIR wasn't gonna be outdone. He ATTACKED Hijo del Fishman Deluxe on the floor and threw him back inside to drop him with Hrothgar's Hammer! Hightower and FAFNIR stacked bodies and the two seemed to enjoy the other's work before returning to the back.
--The 19-year-old high flyer Lee Laz was looking for his first win against the successful Michael van Warren and threw all he could against him including a HUGE trust fall-style dive on the outside, then a springboard sentom bomb, but The Armiger kicked out. Laz went to town using kicks and even scored Laz Rising (standing diamond dust) for two. MvW turned the tide on the floor with a huge powerbomb on the ring apron! The crowd rallied around young Laz, but MvW had enough and spiked him with a muscle buster after another high-flying move was cut off. The Limit Breaker (kata hajime) choke ended Lee Laz's hopes of a victory tonight, giving the win to The Armiger!
--Next up was a six-man tag featuring one of BRAZEN's most popular acts and one of its most hated. Both teams looking for big wins, the VWC attacked at the bell and played keep away with Corey Nunez from his partners. The twins, Ivar and Floki, attacked him relentlessly while Cul watched on approvingly. But the Barrio Boys did not give up. The first-ever Onslaught Champion Gerardo Vilalobos went on the attack when he got a hot tag and ran wild with shoulder blocks for both twins. Cul didn't tag in once until he had an opportunity to do so with a big spear on Gerardo for a nearfall! Later on it was Gonzalez hitting Stay In School (leaping cutter) on Ivar for a HUGE win! Cul was IRATE after the loss and left the ring without the rest of the Cult as the Barrio Boys celebrated all the way into the show's intermission!
--Things have heated up in a major way over the last few shows between Les Enfants Terribles and The DEFcepticons since the latter touched down in DEFIANCE to win the Tag Team Titles. Archer Silver and High Flyer IV fought perhaps their most unusual of opponents... a literal 6'9" woman in Megan Kron and the diminutive Septimus Tyne. Tyne actually had HF IV in a tizzy at the start outrunning one of BRAZEN's fastest wrestlers. Megan Kron even attacked with a huge body slam, a snake eyes and fallaway slam on HF IV... but the usual dirty cutthroat tactics of LET paid off here. They cut off Tyne and bullied the DEFcepticons leader until hitting a wheelbarrow-like stunner on Archer. Megan Krom got loose and moved over the LET Boys, but things went south when Tyne tried to get in and roll up HF IV twice, but HFIV cleaned his clock with a huge superkick and the Moonshot Special for the win! Archer and HF IV cut a promo after the match. They heard about the BRAZEN Star Cup and soon they would come knocking for it and the Tag Team Titles!
--Anorher newcomer in Jimmy Bonafide, Jr. made his way out... and sadly, had what had to be the DIRT WORST custom title ever made in wrestling. Just this recapper's opinion... as well as anyone with eyesight. The gaudy blinged-out belt was called the... can't believe I'm typing this... the FBGM Title. Fuck Bitches, Get Money. He challenged anyone to take the belt from him... and that's EXACTLY what Strong AF did. The Olympic silver medalist attacked with a Spear and Deadly AF (high angle death valley bomb) for the win. After Strong AF tossed the belt out of the ring, he promised Reinhardt Hoffman would pay for attacking him on the last show. Hoffman was suspended tonight, but the strongman said he'd find him and beat that ass.
--All-out mayhem was the name of the game for the six man tag pitting "The Lead" Jesse Harrison and his hired mercenaries, Heavy Artillery against Jack Harmen, Declan "DEC4L" Alexander and Doug "Moonshine" Matton. Alexander, Harmen, and Harrison would battle in a four way match at the next CLASH Special against Killjoy, pending the monster successfully defending until then. The match was thrown out late when Harrison low blowed Matton and attacked with a chair. Harmen and Alexander cleared Heavy Artillery from the ring, but Harrison attacked Harmen with a cheap shot in the form of the Cliff Hanger! He ran out of the ring and laughed with Heavy Artillery on the ramp amid booing, but Capital Punishment arrived and said at the next Double Shot, there would be a rematch... under elimination rules!
--Killjoy was defending the BRAZEN Championship in an open challenge and the only two-time BRAZEN Champion would fight... DEFIANCE's own "Bantam" Ryan Batts! The one-time former BRAZEN star answered the challenge... and ran circles around Killjoy! Batts tricked Killjoy early on, pulling the ropes and spilling the monster to the floor. A flurry of Flipsides finally brought the only two-time BRAZEN Champion down! When he tried to get in, Batts hit Let Gravity Do The Rest (diving senton) for a quick two-count. Batts tried to work the monster's arms with kicks and strikes, but Killjoy muscled his way out of the Fastest Armbar in the West with a huge powerbomb. Batts got tossed out by Killjoy but he made it back in at the count of nine! From there, Killjoy worked him over with power moves, but perhaps DEFIANCE's gutsiest wrestler fought back with a surprise Goliath Birdeater! The double underhook Crossface was painful but didn't hold him down for long because the Native American monster powered free! One chokeslam followed up with the FreeFall and he claimed another victim! Killjoy had notched another victory over a main roster member to retain his title. Flex Kruger, Klein, now Ryan Batts had all fallen to LET's Beast!
--The BRAZEN Tag Team Championships were on the line, featuring THREE of BRAZEN's top teams! The always-popular BADASS and the budding (tee hee) fan favorites, High Investigations, gave each other a run for their money in a massive main event! Several huge spots included Tripp Wise hitting EVERYONE that moved with running hip attacks galore in the early going! It kept going up til Titilayo of all peoole countered into an atomic drop, giving him a weekly knee to the assbone and didn't even need a podcast to do it! Titilayo and Al Sparks getting into a massive slugfest to the delight of the crowd! Eddie Cheno of all people busting out a superman plancha off the top rope taking out everyone on the floor but Al Sparks, who hit a MASSIVE Moonsault to the floor! Ryan Knox hitting the Rhino Smash to Davis Bloome on the ring apron, sending both men to the floor! BADASS almost pinning Titilayo with Ultimate BADASSery only for Sparks to save. But the end came down to Cheno, Titilayo and Wise being taken out in the outside, leaving The DEFcepticons to hit Transformation Complete (double powerbomb) on Davis Bloome to add another BIG win on their list of BIG wins since holding the titles! The DEFcepticons regrouped in the ring and celebrated the match with both BADASS and High Investigations as they ended the show! The DEFcepticons look like no team may be able to stop them with the gold around their waists!
