“My Peeps!”

[Excited Tyson Burke screams at his two compadres across the empty wrestling school.  Even on Easter Tyson Burke finds a way to be Switzerland in dichotomy between Luke Windham and Curtis Penn.  For weeks, since Luke’s induction into the MSX Curtis has been spiteful, hateful, and downright mean to the kid. Curtis calls it paying his dues, Luke calls it bullying, but Tyson knows that it is called resentment.]

[Resentment, not because of who Luke Windham is, only because it signifies that Curt’s buddy, pal, and mentor, Mike Sloan, has forever given up the life of being a fighter and has moved onto a new role in the wrestling industry… the manager of a group.]

[Luke Windham is the living, breathing example of Mike Sloan’s retirement and Curtis’ refusal to accept Sloan’s departure from the wrestling ring has inspired him to become the most disagreeable person to work alongside.]

[Tyson knows this, but knowing this does not cut the tension between these two. Luke’s size would be enough for most men to like him enough to work with, but again everything that could be gray or white is only black in the mind of Curtis Penn. Luke’s gargantuan size only makes it more of a challenge to bring the steer wrestling, bull bashing, cow hand down to Curt’s own size.]

[Tyson again knows what Curt is doing and he can explain it until he is blue in the face, but the fact remains that Luke is not a fan of Curtis Penn either. Penn might be good in the ring, but his arrogance, brashness, and lack of respect for everyone in the business has painted not only a target on Curt’s own back, but on the team including Mike Sloan.]

[Still he remains neutral between the two sides: mentoring Luke inside of the ring and helping him come to terms with his new found successes, then being an ear for Curtis to bend while he struggles with the decisions of his friend and mentor.]

[Tyson knows the needs of both men; Curtis needs a family and being a bastard and orphaned he is only left with this team and Mike Sloan. Luke needs guidance while he’s in the business. Too often kids of his age and profiled like he has been find the wrong people to guide them, confusing guidance with manipulation.]

Burke:
My peeps!

[The two men break from staring daggers at each other from across the room to cast a glance at Tyson who has just announced his arrival.]

Burke:
No… my peeps! Who ate my peeps?

[Tyson glares at the empty packs of the sugar coated marshmallows that are scattered across the padded floor.]

Penn:
The Easter Bunny came early, eh?

[Tyson kicks an empty box across the floor.]

Burke:
Ya’ll ate all of my peeps? How are ya’ll sittin’ still?

[Luke gives a puzzled look at Tyson.]

Windham:
Ty… it was like this when we got here. We thought that you were in a sugar coma somewhere.

[There is a groan echoing from the office.]

Ugh…oh

[Moments pass and the sound returns.]

Ugh…oh

[Tyson leads the trio towards the sound and a trail of sugar crumbs.]

Burke:
I’ma kill ‘em.

[Tyson lays his big hand on the door and push it open. Leaning back in a large chair is their manager and leader Mike Sloan and he is dressed in sugar of Easter colors and a half a box of yellow chick peeps lying on his gurgling stomach.]

[Tyson walks over and snatches the three peeps off of his stomach and shoves one into his mouth.]

Burke:
This … this just saved your other leg from being broken.

[He shoves a second into his mouth and leaves the other three men in the room alone.]

[The camera fades out as Mike’s stomach makes a world threatening rumble.]
